Hello there. My name is Meagan. Pleased to meet you.
Yes, I realize that starting a style blog is *so 2009*, but I've received a lot encouragement so I've decided to take the plunge. Fashion is something that I've always been interested in, and I take a lot pride in cultivating my appearance to artfully reflect my personality, interests, and aesthethic.
My style is heavily influenced by the stark, grey, flatness of the Midwest. I take inspiration from the abandoned buildings of the south side, the iciness of Lake Michigan frozen over, the flat terrain of the 1-90 stretch through Indiana. The attitude here is very pragmatic and no-nonsense. There's something about the Midwest that brings out the minimalist in me.
I've decided to begin this blog for a few reasons.
First, I don't have a lot of money or connections like many of the high-profile fashion bloggers. iIm just me. I want to show the world that you don't need a fat bank account to have style -you just need to know where to look. I don't have a collection of high-end designer clothing and shoes. I have a few nice things, but not many. Expensive things aren't necessary to look great.
Second, I ride a bicycle as my main means of transportation. Riding a bicycle is positive in so many ways, though admittedly it's not conducive to fashion. Everyone who rides a bike understands that to ride a bike often means sacrificing fashion in the name of saddletop comfort. I want to share my tips and tricks on how I stay stylish as I pedal through the streets of Chicago. It's tough, but I remain steadfast in my belief that looking great and riding a bike are not mutually exclusive.
Third, I live in Chicago. It's very cold here. Our winters last almost 6 months. I want to show how I manage to stay warm and fashionable throughout these long, cold, dark months.
Fourth, I'm not a stick. i firmly believe that fashion is for everyone, not just for those who are tall and thin. I'm short, I have some curves. It happens. BFD.
All photos, unless otherwise noted, have been taken by me.
I hope you enjoy reading LATTERSTYLE, I'll certainly enjoy writing it.
